Since its incorporation in 1975, CMC has an enviable record of successfully building IT solutions for massive and complex infrastructure and market projects.

Take, for instance, just three of the many major projects undertaken by us:

A passenger ticketing and reservations system for Indian Railways, which runs 6, 000 passenger trains carrying over 10 million passengers a day, on a 90, 000-km railway network covering around 8, 000 railway stations.
A cargo handling system is a comprehensive online real time cargo handling system to integrate all complex and varied activities of container terminals. This system has been implemented for several Indian and International ports.
An online transaction processing system for the Bombay Stock Exchange, which handles millions of securities trading transactions every day.

End-to-end solutions capability
We manage turnkey projects, and have built, managed and supported our customers' IT systems across the value chain ? infrastructure, applications and business processes. That is because our capabilities span the entire IT spectrum: IT architecture; hardware; software (including systems and application software, development or implementation, maintenance, and frameworks); network consulting; and IT-enabled processing services.

This is how we work: Our Customer Services (CS) unit designs and builds the IT infrastructure and network.
Our Systems Integration (SI) unit develops applications and integrates them across diverse hardware and software platforms
Our IT-Enabled Services (ITES) unit manages developed applications and digitisation activities.
Our Education and Training unit provides IT education and training to users.


Extensive domain expertise and technological competencies
We have proven expertise in a wide array of applications, including real-time systems, online systems, embedded systems, process control, transaction processing, image processing, data communications, networking, parallel architectures, e-commerce technologies and e-governance applications.

Our competitive edge comes from combining our technology competencies with our understanding of verticals, straddling a range of sectors from banking and insurance, power, mining and defence to education. Our high quality, high value IT solutions have helped reshape businesses and delivered measurable results to our customers.

Sizable resource pool with diverse skill sets
We achieve this with the help of our resource pool of engineers trained in diverse technologies, with vast domain knowledge and varied skill sets. Of our 3, 000 employees, about half have more than five years of experience. We also have a large competency pool that works on emerging technologies and competency areas. We have an impeccable educational profile; as many as 44 per cent of our employees are qualified graduate engineers, while another 27 per cent have post-graduate or higher qualifications.

We also conduct significant research into emerging technologies and competence areas at our state-of-the-art, ISO 9001-certified R&D centre in Hyderabad, India. That is what gives us an edge in complex, high technology projects.

Our centres at Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad have the distinction of having achieved Level 5 (optimising level) of the SEI's Capability Maturity Model (software).

Products :
We are Services of Consultants. Customer services (CS) :- The customer services business unit handles the business-critical IT needs of large and medium corporate organisations. These include infrastructure development and management, networking management, storage, third-party maintenance, third party equipment supply and integration, networking consultancy, and environmental engineering. CMC holds the No.1 position in third party systems support. It caters to a wide range of systems, with several new business tie-ups and a vastly increased geographical spread. We have bagged the Techies award, instituted by a leading Indian IT publication, for being the best IT-maintenance company in the country. Systems integration (SI) :- A leading systems integrator in India, CMC has consolidated its position in the domestic software market as well as in offshore turnkey projects. The systems integration SBU handles solutions deployment. This includes software development, software maintenance and support, turnkey project implementation and systems consultancy. A recent survey by a leading IT publication ranked CMC as India's No.2 domestic software developer. Executing a very large number of infrastructure projects has consolidated our IT expertise in 'horizontal' skills and our domain experience of 'vertical' markets. This places us in an unassailable position in this area of IT. IT enabled services (ITES) :- The ITES SBU is a value-added service provider. It offers optical mark reading (OMR) and intelligent character recognition (ICR) based forms processing services; document management services; file transfer and data management services; managed networks services; facilities management; electronic data interchange (EDI) services; web design and hosting services; as well as smartcard and biometric security solutions. CMC places special emphasis on electronic data interchange (EDI), eCommerce applications and internet services. This creates a synergy with our other services, to benefit our customers over a large geographical area. The ITES SBU has created new business opportunities by developing websites and home pages using internet technology. It has provided metro-area network and wide-area network connectivity to many of its customers. Education and training (E&T) :- We have more than 250 IT-education franchisees and several collaborative training centres with renowned universities and institutes. CMC is also exploring the field of internet-based training. The SBU also plays a vital role in imparting quality IT education to corporate houses, institutions, central and state government departments, professional establishments and other clients, for whom CMC develops IT solutions. This is especially important in very large and complex projects. For CMC, education and training services is not merely a business area.
