The California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) provides the unifying vision and voice to all Californians speaking out against sexual violence. CALCASA’s leadership at both the state and national level brings support, justice, and hope to victim/survivors of sexual assault, and to those who work to eradicate this pervasive problem in our communities. The needs of sexual violence victim/survivors as well as the prevention approaches designed to stop sexual assault, guide CALCASA as it works to impact public policy, educate the public, and provide resources to all those working to end sexual violence

Founded in 1980, CALCASA is the only statewide organization in California whose sole purpose is to promote public policy, advocacy, training and technical assistance on the issue of sexual assault. CALCASA’s primary membership is the 92 rape crisis centers and rape prevention programs in the state. CALCASA affiliate membership category is for organizations, businesses, individuals and others committed to our mission and our vision of the elimination of sexual violence.

CALCASA works closely with rape crisis centers, government agencies, campuses, institutions, lawmakers, the criminal justice system, medical personnel, community-based organizations and business leaders providing a central resource for improving society's response to sexual violence by supplying knowledge and expertise on a wide range of issues.

CALCASA’s membership is the sixty-six rape crisis centers throughout California, Campus-based rape prevention programs, and allied organizations and individuals sharing the mission to end sexual violence. MyStrength Campaign :- The California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) is initiating the “Strength Campaign” in California. Developed by the Men Can Stop Rape organization in Washington DC, the campaign centers on the theme of “My Strength is Not for Hurting.” It is designed to raise awareness of sexual violence among youth and highlight the vital role that young men can play in fostering healthy, safe relationships. The campaign currently appears in communities across the nation, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and more than 20 countries. Starting in September 2005, messages of “My Strength is Not for Hurting” and “Men Can Stop Rape” will been heard on radio stations, billboards, and in schools throughout California. 2005 Leadership Conference :- The Statewide Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting for Rape Crisis Centers and Rape Prevention Programs was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Sacramento on May 23 - 25, This year's theme was "Prevention is the Key: Honoring Our Past, Inspiring The Future." 2005. Our opening keynote speaker was Le Ly Hayslip, a survivor and author of the best-selling novels, "When Heaven and Earth Changed Places" and "Child of War: Woman of Peace." Le Ly's personal story has been adapted into the 1994 Oliver Stone film, "Heaven and Earth." Le Ly is also the founder and CEO of the East Meets West Foundation and the Global Village Foundation. Seek Help :- What to Do If You've Been Assaulted Your immediate safety is first. Try to go to a safe place. Reach out for support. You deserve it. Call your local rape crisis center. Call someone you trust, like a friend or a member of your family. Get medical attention as soon as possible. Your local rape crisis center can assist you with finding options. Medical care is important, in case you are injured and to protect against sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. Be treated with respect, dignity and courtesy. File a police report and receive services, no matter what your relationship is to the assailant. Not be judged because of your race, age, class, gender, sexual orientation or occupation. Have a sexual assault counselor come with you to medical, law enforcement and legal proceedings. Privacy when meeting with a counselor or a police officer. Understand any forms you are asked to sign. Ask questions and get answers about any tests, exams, medications, treatments or police reports. Be told of any necessary follow-up care and testing. Voice complaints and expect to have them heard and accepted. Reactions to Sexual Assault :- As a survivor of sexual assault you may find yourself having some of the following feelings :- Anger Fear Embarrassment Powerlessness Depression Self-blame and doubt Isolation Anxiety Denial Shame Suicidal thoughts Get Involved :- Membership Information : For more than two decades, the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault has worked diligently with rape crisis centers to develop programs and services to eliminate sexual violence in our state. Today, we are inviting you to join these efforts by becoming an Allied Member of CALCASA. Each year, an estimated 302, 100 women and 92, 700 men are forcibly raped in this country. While CALCASA continues to make significant progress in its efforts to eliminate rape and sexual violence, there is still a great deal of important work ahead and we need concerned citizens like you to help us speak out against sexual assault.
