I first learned the word Bodega while delivering medicines and medical services to desperately poor villages in Guatemala. While standing in a clinic holding a crying baby with a 105 degree temperature, I realized I had to do more to help these people. Upon returning from Guatemala I went to work on ideas to find support for the agencies and charities involved there. This web site was developed to help raise money to fund orphanages, medical clinics and the transportation of medical aid specifically for the organizations with which I have worked.
If you’d like to know more about these organizations, I have included links to those I support. As well, If you’d like periodical updates on the good this site is doing please sign up for our newsletter. In it we will the publish the details of how your purchases have improved the lives of people who desperately need help.
Someone once told me that trying help these people is like the story about a boy who was walking on a beach one day and saw hundreds of starfish washed up on shore. Seeing that they were dying without water, he began throwing them back into the ocean. A man walking by, seeing what the boy was up to said to him, "why are you doing this, look how many there are, you can't possibly make a difference." The boy looked up to him and said as he hurled another starfish into the ocean, "I made a difference to that one." When you visit a country like Guatemala you are overwhelmed by the need. Some people come back depressed, knowing that they cannot possibly fill so great a need. Others realize that meeting the momentary needs of one child or a small group of people no matter how insignificant when compared with the totallity of needs is worth the effort. While Gobodega.Com may not be the next Amazon or Overstock, my hope is to be able to use it to make a difference for someone.
